The Alcatel 1355 Virtual Private Network (VPN) Manager permits administration and self-service management facilities of optical VPNs for a multi-service SDH and DWDM transport network. It allows enterprises and new carriers to buy bandwidth from operators instead of building their own networks, which means a reduction in turnaround time by directly managing own VPN connections as well as avoiding the costs (operational and capital) and complexities of managing a real transport network infrastructure.
